RTNN Awards

The RTNN awards serve to recognize researchers conducting collaborative research across the network as well as students who have devoted their time and energy to education and outreach activities. Details for each award are described below. Applications for the 2023 Collaborative Research Award and Student Outreach Awards are now being accepted until April 15, 2024. Collaborative Research Awardees will be invited to the annual RTNN Awards and Appreciation Dinner. Please contact rtnanonetwork@ncsu.edu with any questions.

RTNN Collaborative Research Award:

This award seeks to identify outstanding research projects, papers, and/or presentations that leverage the resources, equipment, and/or expertise available through the RTNN. Awarded research projects are expected to demonstrate a high-level of research progress and achievement that was made possible only by the use of two or more university sites or collaborators within the RTNN.

Application document includes:

  1. Title of the project
  2. One page abstract/summary describing the goal of the project and how it made use of physical, intellectual, or computational resources at two or more RTNN sites
  3. List of faculty/PI participants in the project and their institutional affiliations
  4. List of student, post-doc, researcher participants in the project and their institutional affiliations.
  5. Tangible outcomes of the project, e.g. papers published, manuscripts submitted, presentations given, proposals funded, etc.

Award: Awarded projects will be prominently highlighted on the RTNN website. In addition, the awardees will receive $300 cash prize and $500 in RTNN user-facility funds to support their project.

RTNN Student Outreach Award:

The RTNN Student Outreach award recognizes a student for exemplary leadership, initiative, and ongoing commitment to the mission of expanding access to RTNN nanotechnology user facilities.

Eligibility: Undergraduate and Graduate students enrolled in RTNN universities (Duke, UNC, NC State) who have worked with staff in RTNN facilities within the past couple of years (2022-2023).

How to apply: Students are nominated by institution faculty and/or staff. In one page, outline how the nominee has exhibited exemplary leadership, initiative, and ongoing commitment to the RTNN mission. Specific examples are helpful.

Award: Maximum one student from each RTNN institution will be presented with an award. Awardees will each receive a cash award of $300 and an acknowledgement certificate.
