Nanoindentation Short Course

This introductory short course will cover the basic principles and operation of nanomechanical testing through quasistatic nanoindentation.   The lecture component will introduce the concepts of deformation using nanoindentation, Oliver-Pharr contact mechanics analysis to determine mechanical properties, system capabilities, and sample preparation.  An interactive demonstration will introduce attendees to operation and parameter optimization for soft and hard materials on the Hysitron nanoindentation system at AIF.  Users are welcome to bring their own samples (prior sample preparation necessary).

Contact Phillip Strader at phillip_strader@ncsu.edu for information and to register. Registration costs: $50 for academic, government, and non-profit participants; $350 for industry participants. RTNN is able to offset costs associated with registration and travel to a limited number of participants who demonstrate need. To apply for support, please visit the RTNN support page.
